Yet again, another year gone by.

This episode is with local legend Pete Anderson.

Pete's been on the podcast before.

He was on episode 576, which was called the First Church of the Higher

Elevations, which is the name of one of Pete's books. Pete is a poet. He's essayist. He's taught

literature, and mostly he's just a really smart, deep dude who has been around

and has well-informed thoughts about a lot of different topics.

And this conversation, we sort of go around the question of soul.

Before he came over, I sent him that Aubrey Plaza video where she talks about having a stroke and witnessing her own brain not functioning. And that for me

sort of brought up the question of what is soul? Who is who is the one that watches me living my

life, right? Who is the one who is timeless and ageless and is the witness to the specificity of this particular life.

So Pete and I talked about that a lot.

What is soul?

Who is the watcher, the secret sharer?

We talked about whether there is a purpose to getting older. Pete and I are about the same age.

So we're at that stage of life where we're, you know, feeling like, hey, maybe I'm starting to figure this out.

And then also speaking for myself, feeling a sense of futility of like, well, what's the

fucking point in figuring it out at the end, right?

Like there's no time to put these lessons into action.

We talked a lot about silence and solitude.
