1 Samuel, chapter 19, verse 10.

And Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear,

but he eluded Saul so that he struck the spear into the wall.

And David fled and escaped that night.

This is one of many instances in David's life where he is fleeing Saul and God provides ways of escape. God protects David. God has made it

clear that David is to be the next king, and Saul is trying to stop that,

but you cannot stop the sovereign plans and purposes of God. And ultimately, this is what not only

David, but all of us rest in, that God, who is ultimately good and loving and gracious he's our father in heaven

and his purposes for our lives cannot be stopped God is sovereign God is ultimately in control

and in this we find our rest.

I think about Charles Spurgeon.

He once preached, there is no attribute more comforting to his children than that of God's

sovereignty.

Under the most adverse circumstances, in the most severe trials, they believe that sovereignty

has ordained their afflictions, that sovereignty overrules them, and that sovereignty will sanctify

them. There is nothing for which God's children ought more earnestly to contend than the doctrine of their master over

all creation, the kingship of God over all the works of his own hands, the throne of God and

his right to sit upon that throne. It is God upon the throne that we love to preach.

It is God upon the throne whom we trust.

He went on to say, when you go through a trial,

the sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which you lay your head.
