| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to the Lincoln Project. I'm your host, Reed Gaelyn. Today I'm joined by Lisa |
| 0:13.5 | Senna-Kell and Maya May. The hosts of We're Speaking, which will be returning to LPTV very |
| 0:19.4 | soon. Lisa and Maya, welcome to the show. Hey Reed, thanks for having us. Great to be |
| 0:25.0 | here. So today on the show guys, I want to talk about for lack of a better way to put |
| 0:28.7 | it, the absolute insanity that we're seeing going on in Texas right now. So let's get into |
| 0:33.8 | it. Senate Bill 8. So guys, on September 1st, SBA went into effect in Texas and the law |
| 0:41.6 | bans abortions after only six weeks of pregnancy. Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the law earlier |
| 0:47.6 | this year back in May. Furthermore, the law deputizes private citizens by allowing them to |
| 0:53.3 | sue abortion providers and anyone else who helps a woman get an abortion, ranging from |
| 0:58.7 | those who may provide financial assistance to those who may give a woman a ride to a clinic, |
| 1:03.9 | even if that rides in an Uber. Anyone who successfully sue an abortion provider could |
| 1:08.2 | be awarded at least $10,000. The law makes no exemptions for cases involving rape and |
| 1:13.7 | incest, and also just before midnight on September 1st, the United States Supreme Court in an |
| 1:18.3 | unprecedented fashion refused to block the Texas law in a 5-4 decision with Chief Justice |
| 1:23.0 | John Roberts joining the dissent. So guys, short of blowing out my own speakers and microphone |
| 1:29.8 | on this topic because I understand that it is very, very near and dear to so many hearts, |
| 1:35.1 | you know, what I see is there are things. There's obviously the abortion piece which we'll |
| 1:39.5 | discuss. To me too, though, it's a further erosion of Republicans' small-de-democratic |
| 1:47.3 | nature and their perfect willingness to turn citizens against one another and they have |
| 1:53.6 | now enshrined in state law for lack of a better way to put it, vigilanteism. So Lisa, what |
| 1:59.5 | the hell is going on here? We really have to zoom back and look at this broadly because |
| 2:06.7 | it isn't just about abortion in Texas. It's not about just abortion across the country. |
