Summary

Stefan Molyneux digs into the challenges of romantic relationships, particularly how men and women interact. He pushes back against the idea that equality means being identical, pointing out that real differences shape what people can do and how they excel. Drawing from things like how siblings get along or gaps in pay, he stresses the need to appreciate what each person brings to the table. He also looks at how mismatched ways of talking can lead to confusion, and suggests embracing those differences instead of letting them cause friction. In the end, Molyneux calls for an approach to equality that respects personal traits as key to solid partnerships.

All right, this is just a kind of ranty rant about relationships as a whole, and particularly

0:07.6

sexual, romantic, marital relationships, because something kind of sad has happened in the generic

0:16.1

Star Trek copy-paste human goo blob of the idea of male and female. And this, either unconsciously

0:26.8

by design or whatever doesn't really matter, but in portraying men and women as the same,

0:33.7

right? So the demand for equality is the claim of sameness. The demand for equality is the claim of

0:41.6

sameness. All human beings are equal, therefore all human beings possess, say, property rights,

0:46.1

and so saying, I'm the same, is saying I should be treated equally, right? We don't have the same

0:53.5

rights for rabbits as people because

0:56.5

rabbits and people are not the same. The gender pay gap is an appeal to resentment and

1:04.2

the sameness. Men and women should be paid the same, which is to say that men and women are the same. And I'll give you an example.

So I'm a younger brother, and when my brother and I were kids, he got to stay up later, and he

1:20.4

got more allowance. And this seemed unfair to me. And it was explained to me, with varying degrees of patience, that I was not the same

1:31.2

as my brother because I'm two and a half years younger, or two years in change or whatever, right?

1:35.8

And so when he was eight and I was six, I had to go to bed earlier and I didn't get as much

1:39.7

allowance. Actually, no, I didn't get any allowance as six, when he was, say, 10 and I was 8.

1:45.4

And it was explained that when I was 10, I would get the same allowance as he did,

1:49.8

and when he was six he got the same allowance as I did, or when he was eight.

1:53.0

And so we weren't the same, and things were different, and that sort of made sense to me.

1:59.3

When I worked up north, for some time period that I

2:03.1

worked up north, I worked with a friend of mine. It's called him Bob. Now Bob had a year of

2:10.4

university and I only had high school. And Bob was paid $100 more a month because the company would give $100 more a month per year of university.

2:25.7

However, of course, the fact was that Bob did exactly the same job that I did.
