On July 1st, 1981, a gruesome murder with gang ties took place in Los Angeles that was described as the LAPD as more bloody and gruesome than the Tate La Bianca murders.

lived in a rented townhouse on Wonderland Avenue in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles.

The members were all heavily involved in the party scene, drugs and drug dealing.

It included leader Ronald Lee Launas, second in command, Billy Raymond DeVarrell,

his girlfriend, Joy Audrey Gold Miller, Tracyand McCourt, and David Clay Lind.

On July 29, 1981, Launas DeVarrel, Lind, and McCourt broke into the home of Eddie Nash and robbed him at gunpoint.

Eddie Nash, who was an organized crime figure and nightclub owner, was furious, not just

because he was robbed, but because the crime resulted in his bodyguard being shot and injured.

He suspected that the break-in was committed by porn star John Holmes, as he had been at his

house three times on the morning of the attack.

So Nash sent his bodyguard, Gregory DeWitt Diles, to retrieve Holmes for questioning.

Holmes was tied to a chair and repeatedly punched until he revealed his assailant's identities.
