The president of Boa Esporta, a football club in Brazil's second division, has defended his decision to offer a contract to a goalkeeper who has just gone out of prison.

Bruno de Sousa was jailed for ordering the murder of a former lover after she gave birth to his child. Her body was cut up and fed to dogs.

In a surprise move, however, the goalkeeper from Flamengo was released last month on a technicality while his attorneys prepare an appeal.

Not surprisingly, he wants to play football. What is surprising is that a team has signed him on. The series B football club Boa Esporta has signed him up for two years.

They tweeted out that he could soon be back on the pitch.

So why in the heck is Paul here with us today? Well...

Because he's also the producer of Real Crime Profile. But we started a conversation some time ago about figures in sport.

And certainly when violence and abuse or things happen and people are given passes because of who they are or what they symbolize, whether they're popular.

And of course, you know, we had spoken about the Riva Steenkamp case in Real Crime Profile and Oscar Bistorius and Nicole Amron, Nicole Simpson and O.J. Simpson.

And recently when I was in London, I was outraged enough seeing and reading, I think as many of us did over the last couple of days, what's happened with a particular case in Brazil.

And that particular case, the victim is somebody called or was called Alisa Samudio.

And in fact, you probably wouldn't see her name in many of the reports because it was much more about the goalkeeper ex-husband that she had who ended up.

And I say ended up, he killed her in cold blood and actually did confess to it and it was meticulously calculated.
