Joshua chapter 24 verses 14 and 15

now therefore fear the Lord

and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness.

Put away the gods that your father served beyond the river and in Egypt and serve the

Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord.

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord,

choose this day whom you will serve.

Whether the gods your father served in the region beyond the river or the gods of the

amarites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house we will serve the

Lord. Maybe the most well-known verse in all of

Joshua is Joshua chapter 24 verse 15. As for me in my house, we will serve the Lord.

It's interesting when you think about how Deuterotomy ended and then now how

Joshua ends.

It ends with a choice.

Life and death, blessing and curse in Deuteronomy. Here, serve all these

false foreign gods that do not satisfy or serve the Lord God who alone can satisfy. And the reality is you and

I have that choice in a sense on a daily basis. So just to back up, I mean there comes a point where we all must decide if we are

going to serve God, if we're going to put our faith in Jesus to save us from our sins and submit

to his lordship in our lives. So that's the beginning of the Christian life.

But that beginning triggers a daily denying ourselves, taking up our cross and following

Jesus. That's what Jesus says in Luke 9. If anyone wanted to come after me, he must deny himself daily.
