I remember the first time I went to get HIV testing, SDI testing, and they asked me if I had sex with men, women, or both,

which I get that we have come a very long way to ask, but I remember responding men,

and then they continue to talk about me as if I'm a cisgender man and my partner's a cisgender man.

So all the information they gave me was not relevant to our bodies and about midway in between I was like,

surprise, I'm a trans man and my partner's a trans man and none of the

information you gave me is helpful. That's the inimitable Nathan Levitt describing

one of his few particularly memorable encounters with the health care system as a transgender man, which actually

inspired him to become a nurse practitioner himself and an educator in the transgender
