Summary

It's a tragedy that's hard to imagine. One day you are as healthy as can be, and the next day you are paralyzed. In an instant, your entire life is turned upside down. Dr. Glen House experienced that 30 years ago in a freak skiing accident. And he has transformed his life and now serves patients just like him. But now he has a new tool to help his patients — a ketogenic diet.

House. Now, Dr. House, as you're going to hear, is a pretty remarkable guy. He is the medical

0:12.7

director at the Capron Neuro and Trauma Rehab Center in Colorado Springs. He's board-certified

0:18.7

in physiatry, physical medicine, and rehabilitation,

0:21.4

which is a specialty of medicine dealing with basically loss of function from brain

what that means for him.

0:55.0

So it puts him in a very unique position to understand his patients better than any other doctor and help his patients. And one aspect that really wasn't getting the attention

0:59.7

that he now knows it deserves is nutrition. And specifically, nutrition to impact the metabolic

1:06.6

health that deteriorates in spinal cord injury patients over time and nutrition that could

1:13.0

potentially acutely help reduce the amount of inflammation and the amount of damage done

1:19.1

from spinal cord injuries. This sounds like a very specific intervention, but it really has

1:24.3

some broad reaching potential for all neurological conditions.

1:29.1

So it's a really interesting topic to discuss.

1:31.3

So I hope you enjoy his perspective on this and our discussion on this because it really

1:36.1

could, it's sort of at the forefront of the research now, but has the potential to really

1:40.3

expand and be pretty dramatic and pretty impactful.

1:43.7

So it's an amazing story.
