[5:13] “It’s not part of my job, it’s how I see my job, right? It’s how I perceive what I do and the term is ‘job crafting.’ Where you have assigned meaning to the task. You have assigned meaning to the experience. That you are now fueling that work rather than letting the job description be your only definition of it.” [19:21] “…He said, “You’ve got to change your mindset.” He said, “You don’t get in life what you want, you get in life what you are.”” [25:24] FOLLOW BRENDON: WEBSITE: https://brendon.com INSTAGRAM: https://bit.ly/36lTIBy FACEBOOK: https://bit.ly/2E3vVdy TWITTER: https://bit.ly/2RIHy1c FOLLOW TREVOR: WEBSITE: https://moawadconsultinggroup.com/ INSTAGRAM: https://bit.ly/2V5XmwK FACEBOOK: https://bit.ly/3bS3Q8w TWITTER: https://bit.ly/2T1QOgc FOLLOW ANNAKA: WEBSITE: https://annakaharris.com INSTAGRAM: https://bit.ly/392CIl1 FACEBOOK: https://bit.ly/2GTsk36 TWITTER: https://bit.ly/2RUoY63 FOLLOW JOCKO: WEBSITE: https://jockopodcast.com INSTAGRAM: https://bit.ly/2sFPXIt FACEBOOK: https://bit.ly/2Q0Eqvu TWITTER: https://bit.ly/2Q2bL9d FOLLOW JAY: WEBSITE: https://jayshetty.me BOOK: https://thinklikeamonkbook.com FACEBOOK: https://facebook.com/JayShettyIW INSTAGRAM: https://instagram.com/jayshetty/ TWITTER: https://twitter.com/JayShettyIW FOLLOW LES: WEBSITE: https://lesbrown.com EMAIL: info@lesbrownleader.com INSTAGRAM: https://bit.ly/2QRxyRo FACEBOOK: https://bit.ly/39Q70IQ TWITTER: https://bit.ly/36xr14R

What is up my friend Tom Billio here and I have a big question to ask you how would you rate your level of personal discipline on a scale of 1 to 10 if your answer is anything less than a 10 I've got something cool for you

0:10.6

and let me tell you right now discipline by its very nature means compelling yourself to do difficult things that are stressful

0:17.2

boring which is what kills most people are possibly scary or even painful now here is the thing achieving huge goals and stretching to reach your potential requires you to do those challenging stressful things

0:29.2

and to stick with them even when it gets boring and it will get boring building your levels of personal discipline is not easy but let me tell you it pays off

Everybody welcome to impact theory our goal with the show and company is to introduce you to the people and ideas that will help you actually execute on your dreams and celebration of the quickly approaching new year the end of 2020 which I know everybody has been waiting for and here it is my friends we have put together a very special episode of impact theory.

1:57.9

We all know what a challenging year 2020 has been but even through the difficult times it's possible to learn and grow and these are some of the amazing guests who have helped us through this year so get ready to have your mind blown my friends with our first guest the one and only Brendan for shard.

2:15.9

I want to talk to you about consciously designing your life it's an idea that I see live day in and day out everything in your world seems completely integrated the people that you hang out with the things you do to have the energy the things you focus on to make sure that you remain excited like it all feels like there's nothing that sort of by accident in your life.

2:43.9

So what's the whole concept and how do you actually pull it off you know I think I talked about this last time a little bit about my car accident so when I was 19 year old kid I had this car accident and prior to the car accident I had been suicidal and you know coming out of breakup with the woman I loved I lost my identity and that became suicidal had the car accident and it was just powerful juxtaposition because here I am suicidal one take my life and then I get an accident that says oh no I don't want to die.

3:12.9

And it forced me to consider how I will evaluate my life at the end of my life and that is always been the driving force for me is I realize the end of my life for me personally I'm going to ask these questions to evaluate was I happy with my life and those from your did I live did I love did I matter which isn't for some people watching like so what but I was 19 and it's set in me.

3:40.9

And so if you think about it you know that was what 23 years ago if you wake up every day with a super clear intention and reverence for life realizing how short it is you absolutely get your act together.

3:55.9

But how do you like how do you really turn that into a road map and start doing the right things because one I think a lot of people could waste a moment like that the eye opening thing a lot of people could do it for a while and then without without concrete things to do on a daily basis like what I really want people to understand in all the research you've done in high performance and all that it comes down to things that you can do it comes down to things you can teach it comes down to things that people can structure their life around.

4:24.9

And what I want to dive into today is that structure.

4:28.9

Yeah you know what's funny is like I think you nailed it people take an eye opening experience and some don't do anything with it and some people grow from it and I came back from that experience I was in college and prior to going back I was a depressed kid the sad kid kind of the lonely kid kind of pull away from the world

4:46.9

kid goes hurt I came back and I had this new intention to live so I wanted to meet people and talk to people like who are you and anytime you change your life usually people are like what's wrong with you so what's wrong with you but I was like I'm going to change because I knew I didn't want

5:02.9

misery anymore I didn't want suffering I didn't want sadness I didn't want negative thinking I didn't want poor quality of relationships I didn't want to feel horrible so I began the quest of well how do I not feel horrible so I started reading first I started personal

5:17.9

development self-help then jumped into spirituality then jumped into psychology then jumped into neuroscience then jump into sociology then jumped into leadership and spent every week for 23 years I read a book a week on one of those topics

5:31.9

for 23 years there's really two concepts that I think set you apart you've got just how powerful negative thinking is and some of the stats around that which are pretty terrifying and some of the stories that you have on that which are I think will really shake people out and then of course there's neutral thinking so I think that's sort of the next one too that we should walk through
