If you're growing a pumpkin,

if you're growing a pumpkin this year, do you trim your pumpkin vines? Do you have to prune

them in any way? You don't to answer the question.

But let's discuss it a little bit longer and see

why you might even do this.

Most of the reason why someone would trim their pumpkin

is to prevent it from going absolutely crazy

and smothering out the rest of your plants

because, you know, if left to its own devices grown horizontally,

pumpkin vines will cover quite a bit of space,

which means that they really can smother out

some of your lower growing plants.

Now, what you can do, you can trim some of these vines back. What that'll do is of course

take some of that leaf tissue off, but also you will probably sacrifice some of those

younger pumpkin fruit and what that will do is that will let the plant put all of its energy into

developing the remaining pump. So you can say you know what I really only

care about getting two pumpkins from this vine so I'm gonna take off some of

the stems as well as some of the younger fruits that are maturing slower.

I just don't really need them. So let's talk about the anatomy of the pumpkin vine so that we can understand what we should take off.

First of all, you have the main vine.
