So we are discussing the reality of theodicy, how we understand evil.

And last class, I went over five Quranic maxims, five Quranic principles that will help us contextualize and understand why there

is pain and suffering. Today, I wanted to give a more concrete answer based upon, in particular,

in particular the paradigm of Ibn Taymiya. As you know, I do view myself overall as being

somebody who has inspired a lot by Ibn Taymiya.

I do agree with a lot of what he has to say, and I agree with his basic epistemology when it comes to the religion of Islam.

And especially when it comes to this issue of theodicy, I do believe that he has contributed in ways that are the most sensible to us.

So in today's talk, then, I will, inshallah,

to-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-sumorize my analysis of Ibn Taymiya's theology.

How did Ibn Taymiya?

How did Ibn Taymiya help us understand the wisdom of why there is pain and evil in this world?

And I've categorized this into six categories, six categories.

So you can write these down and go with me category by category.

First of all, I've called it assessment theodicy.

What I mean by this is that Allah, subannawata is wanting to assess our reaction to what we consider to be evil.

The goal is the test.

The goal is not the suffering.

Suffering is not random.

Trials have a purpose.

There is a wisdom.
