The US Supreme Court heard arguments today in a historic case

that challenges former President Donald Trump's eligibility to appear on

Colorado's 2024 ballot.

At issue is a provision in the 14th Amendment that bars certain public officials from serving

in the government again if they took part in an

insurrection.

Jason Murray, a lawyer representing a group of Colorado voters, says Trump is not eligible for

office because of his role in the U.S. capital attack on January 6th, 2021.

A lawyer for Trump argued that Congress should determine that, not states.

Today the court suggested that they were leaning towards Trump's position, with even some of the

liberal justices posing tough questions for Murray.

Here is an exchange between Murray and Justice Katanji Brown Jackson.

The framers were concerned about charismatic rebels who might rise through the ranks up to and including the presidency of the United States.

But then why didn't they put the word president in the very enumerated list in section three.

The thing that really is troubling to me
