Hi, from CNN. This is Madeline Thompson, with five things you need to know for Tuesday, December 17th.

Luigi Mangione has been indicted for the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson earlier this month,

according to newly released court documents.

Here's Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg at a news conference this afternoon.

Luigi Mangione, the defendant, is charged with one count of murder in the first degree and two counts

of murder in the second degree, including one count of murder in the second degree as an act

of terrorism.

The first degree murder charge is rare because it requires special elements related

to the crime to be charged and carries a sentence of 20 years to life.

There are several additional charges, including for weapons possession and forgery.

Mangione is currently scheduled to appear in court in Pennsylvania on Thursday,

where Bragg said he may waive his extradition hearing and be transported directly to New York.

At the news conference, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch also blasted the celebratory

reactions of some on social media. People ghoulishly plastered posters threatening the CEOs,

other CEOs, with an X over Mr. Thompson's picture, as though he was some sort of a sick
