The U.S. believes an umbrella group of militants called Islamic resistance in Iraq

was behind the drone attack in Jordan

that killed three American service members over the weekend. That's according to

the White House in its first formal attribution for the incident. The attack was

the most serious of scores of attacks that have targeted U.S. forces in the Middle East since the October 7th attacks by Hamas on Israel,

and the first time U.S. troops have died under direct fire in the Middle East since Hamas's attack. More than 40 U.S. troops were

injured. During a White House briefing today National Security Council spokesman John Kirby

said the U.S.'s response would happen in phases. We'll respond on our own time on our

own schedule. The first thing you see won't be the last thing. Kirby also said

US Intelligence was monitoring for signs of groups in the region moving resources around

ahead of a US counter-strike. House Speaker Mike Johnson railed against the

Senate's bipartisan immigration deal during his first floor speech as speaker. He also slammed President Joe

Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Myorkus for their handling

of the border crisis and criticized the Biden for not using his executive authority
