Brazil's federal police have indicted former president Jaira Bolsonaro and 36 other people over

an alleged plot to assassinate the country's sitting president.

That's according to CNN Brazil.

The charges stem from an investigation into an attempted coup after the 2022 presidential elections

in which Bolsonaro was defeated. Federal police said Bolsonaro had, quote, full knowledge of the

planned coup, including an effort to murder his successor, President Lula De Silva, and overturn

the election results. They say the alleged plot also involved other military personnel with training in special forces.

CNN has reached out to a representative of Bolsonaro for comment.

The former president has repeatedly denied allegations of attempting a coup.
