You're going to be. Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. About three years ago, I had a two-a-forrunner that I'd had for 14 and a half years.

0:28.0

It had 274,000 miles on it.

0:32.0

It was still running, though not perfectly of course, so the forerunner got passed on to my niece, who actually still drives it to this very day. But I needed a new car, and since I have a tendency to keep cars for so long, I wanted one that I really wanted. And I wanted a hybrid. But the hybrid that I was looking for wasn't built yet. It was still in the development stage.

It was supposed to be done by then. But after 14 years, it was time to get something else.

1:00.9

So I decided to lease a car. That way, at the end of the three years I could purchase my hybrid, which I happily have done now. But if you know anything about leases, you're not supposed to put a lot of miles on them and since I have a bit of a commute

1:15.0

to work I was putting a lot of miles on that lease. So towards the end of it my wife and

1:20.8

I decided to trade vehicles. We owned her vehicle and putting miles on it wouldn't hurt anything.

1:27.0

So she took over my lease car and I took over her van.

1:31.0

Now here's where the story gets interesting. Just before my lease car has to be returned, my wife

1:37.8

was backing up and she didn't see this car behind her and she hit it. She did damage to that car and she did damage to my lease car.

1:47.0

So we all may be thinking now, oh, too bad. That's such a bummer.

1:52.0

But that's what this podcast is about. What do we do when bad things happen?

1:58.9

My wife and I could have had an argument about it. We could have been upset about the extra payments now of fixing

2:04.8

the lease before I return it and fixing the other car, this incident could have kept us from

2:10.8

being happy, but it didn't. Of course we were disappointed that we

2:16.6

had to now spend the money and fix the car, but that happens in life and her and I realize that.

2:23.7

So we just moved on and moved forward and got the car fixed.

2:28.4

But when my wife took my lease to be fixed,

2:31.2

the guy asked her if we were going to be selling the car.

2:34.4

And she said, no, we're returning it. It's a lease. And he said, well did you know

2:39.6

that most people when the lease comes due, they purchase a car and then resell it.

2:45.1

And we didn't know that.
