The crop that everyone loves to hate, the humble beat. Why hate it?

Just don't grow it if you don't like it. That's what I say. That's what I did in fact for a while, because I truly didn't like it that's what I say that's what I did in fact for a while because I truly

didn't like beats until I discovered a couple ways to use them that I personally

prefer and that would be of course eating and sautang the beet greens with garlic and onions and

olive oil that's a nice savory way to enjoy them and then growing the varieties

whose flavor you actually like is another one and finally roasting and

chopping is a fantastic way to use them.

Now speaking of the varieties, let's talk about a few of these that you might actually

like.

Now first of all, we've got Avalanche.

Avalanche is an open pollinated white beat.

It has a sweet, mild flavor.

You guys may remember some of the original podcast

listeners that I went on what's called a

vegetable trial tour last year in 2019 with the National Garden Bureau and in fact

Avalanche is one of their winning beat varieties from 2015. It's an All America selections winner.

So highly, highly successful and highly popular one.

Now here's an heirloom one that almost everyone knows and that would be the bull's blood beat.

This one's grown quite prolifically in market gardens.

So some of my friends who have had on the show, they grow the bull's blood and they sell those to restaurants at an extremely high pace.

It seemed to be just a classic one for roasting.

Now, that's a fantastic one.
