An assassination attempt, a major security lapse, and calls from both sides of the aisle to turn down the rhetoric.

We have a lot to unpack in the aftermath of former President Donald Trump being shot and

injured on a rally stage in Pennsylvania.

The thing that said, take a look what happened.

The shooting killed one rally goer and injured two others on Saturday.

Washington examiner reporter Selina Zito was at the event and interviewed Trump after.

As he looked to his right, the bullet grazed right past his face.

And I was standing right there when it happened.

And he said, in that moment, he understood that everything had changed for the country and for himself.

Authorities have identified the gunman as 20 year old Thomas Matthew Crooks who was

killed by secret service agents at the scene.

The FBI is still looking into Croix's background, though it believes he acted alone.

But the investigation is also looking at security lapses, with some people in the rally saying they saw

the shooter before he fired.

I saw the guy move from roof to roof, talked, told an officer that he was on the roof, figuring that he would go

in radio.

It's still not clear how Crooks was able to get so close to the area with a weapon, and the

Secret Service is now facing serious questions as well as

calls for a congressional investigation. President Joe Biden says he's

ordered an independent review of security measures at the rally.
