With the five things you need to know for Wednesday, December 20th.

In a stunning ruling, Colorado's Supreme Court has decided that former President Donald

Trump should be removed from the state's primary ballot.

The justices ruled 4-3 that Trump is ineligible to run in 2024 because the 14th Amendment

bans anyone who, quote quote engaged in an insurrection from holding office.

A lower court has already ruled that Trump did just that on January 6th 2021,

but because he was president at the time said the rule didn't apply.

The state's primary is set for March next year, but CNN's Paula Reed says this is far from over and will probably go all the way to the US Supreme Court.

This decision, which is largely based on intent and larger objective, is likely headed to a Supreme

Court that is dominated right now by originalists,

textualists, judges who pride themselves on looking at the specific literal words

in the Constitution, so it may not be the most favorable environment for

the Supreme Court of Colorado decision and if the Supreme Court weighs in that

decision would be binding across the country but the Trump team says they're going to

appeal swiftly and as soon as they do this decision is on hold until the Supreme Court
