Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Tuesday

August 6th. At least five people have died in Florida and Georgia as Tropical Storm Debbie is slowly swirling across the

southeastern US. Debbie slammed into Florida as a category 1 hurricane before weakening

yesterday and while wind speeds are dropping,

torrential rainfall will be the biggest threat to the region

and will last for most of the week,

with communities fearing catastrophic flooding.

This is a once in a thousand year potential rainfall event.

Power outage.US reports that thousands of homes and businesses have lost power across Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

The storm has crossed into Georgia and is expected to move slowly through the southeastern part of the state

until its center emerges over the Atlantic this afternoon.

Then Debbie could make landfall again on Thursday as its forecast to move north over the South
