Today, marks one year since Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gerschkovich

was detained in Russia. Gerschovich was detained in Russia.

Gerskovich is an American citizen and he was working on a story in Russia when he was arrested

and accused of trying to get state secrets, which his employer strongly denies. And they're using the print edition of today's Wall Street Journal to make a statement,

leaving a large section of the front page blank, and part of the headline reads,

A Year of Stolen Stories, Stolen Memories, The Crime Journalism.

He needs to be home, he needs to be back with his family, with his friends.

Gerschkovich's friend spoke to CNN about how he's doing.

He's absolutely staying strong.

He's not allowing himself to, you know, to wallow, to get too upset by everything.

In fact, he spends most of his time in letters to us trying to make us feel better.

Gerschkovich's pre-trial detention was extended again earlier this week, but a US official told

CNN, they're hopeful a deal can be reached to get him released in the next 90 days.

He said they're also working to get Paul Wielen home, the ex-US Marine who's now spent more than five years in Russian detention.
