Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Thursday

July 18th.

President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 and has had to cancel events at a critical time in his re-election campaign.

The 81-year-old's doctor said he was experiencing mild symptoms and Biden told reporters,

quote, I feel good before he traveled to his house in Delaware

to self isolate.

It's extremely bad timing, as prominent Democrats continue to come out publicly to call

for Biden to drop out of the 2024

race. And sources tell CNN that in a private call, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

told Biden that not only does polling show he can't beat Trump, but also that he could destroy Democrats chances of winning the House in November if he carries on.

It is impossible almost to overstate the importance of Nancy Pelosi

in the entire conversation that is happening right now about President Biden and his future.

She is somebody that has incredible sway within her party and probably has the best pulse

of what her colleagues in the house are thinking right now than almost anybody else.

And even though Biden is appearing defiant in public, a senior Democratic advisor told CNN that

he's being more receptive in private and that he quote seems to be listening.

And so tonight, Mr Chairman, I stand here humbled and I'm overwhelmed with gratitude to say I officially accept your

nomination to be Vice President of the United States of America.

In a prime time speech last night, former President Donald Trump's running mate, Ohio Senator
