Hi, and welcome to the Five Word Prayers Daily, a five day a week daily devotional where we share the word, prayers, and our heart.

I'm Lisa Whittle, and I welcome you to just five minutes with me, which I trust and pray will be five minutes well spent.

In my personal quiet time, I've been in the book of Joshua, and I was reading the other day a verse that was sweet to me, and I want to encourage you with it today, and also praise God with it at the same time. He's such a good friend. He is such a

promise keeper. I don't know where you are on the discouragement scale today, but I want to talk

0:32.1

through something I think may help a bit on the show in just a minute.

In Joshua 23, he's giving his farewell address because he's about to die, Joshua, that is.

1:17.8

and it was this. This is hard because of earthly pain and disappointment. This idea that every

1:24.3

promise has come true, not a single one has failed. And for just a minute,

1:28.9

I winced a little inside because I thought, wait, God, what about this or that in my life? And

1:34.6

then I thought about other people's lives and what about this or that? And even as I read this

1:38.5

verse again, I read that part about deep in your hearts. and I feel like the deep part is significant because

1:45.3

on the surface it seems like God maybe has failed us at times, I know. But then somewhere deep

1:51.1

inside, we know in that knowing place that he hasn't because he's God. And that has much more

1:57.8

to do with our belief system than tangible proof.

2:06.8

But no matter where we are with this in our own life, there's a few things as I was mulling this verse over that God showed me that I want to share with you now that I think may help.

Number one, God's promises are tied to his supernatural understanding of timing, purpose, and sovereignty

2:20.0

of which we humans cannot unravel. Number two, truth about this, our job is not to figure
