Hi, and welcome to the Five Word Prayers Daily, a Five Day a Week, Daily Devotional where we share the

word, prayers, and our heart. I'm Lisa Whittle, and I welcome you to just five minutes with me,

which I trust and pray will be five minutes well spent. I've got a question for you today.

Do you know who you are? I mean it in this sense. Do you think you see yourself clearly? I think a lot of us do have a good

sense of who we are, especially the older we get, or at least we like to think that, but I'm not

sure we ever see ourselves as clearly as we should, at least how we come across in the eyes of

others. Self-awareness is important, I think, and worth our

five minutes to discuss today. I'm coming off a weekend of travel as I record this show today. So

self-awareness is fresh on my mind as I've been in and out of airports. And I'll

tell you, I'm not sure if there's a better place to evaluate our lack of self-awareness more than in

an airport. Oh my goodness. I won't go into it. But can I just say for a minute how talking

loudly on cell phones in an airport should just be a hard no. Do not get me

started on this. Oh, goodness. But back when I was in college, I took an upper level psychology

course. I was a psych major. And the professor told us that the way we see ourselves is the way

we will choose a mate. This is so interesting.

In other words, if we think we are, say, an eight on a scale of one to ten, even if we're really a

five maybe in the eyes of other people, we will choose an eight as well. That's why all these

rock stars who aren't very good looking, they land these supermodels

as girlfriends and wives because they see themselves as a tin, because of their ego, I guess,

just like their women really are a 10. It's fascinating, I think, right? The truth is,

sometimes our perception of our self gets in our way, I think, when it comes

to our relationships with other people and especially with God.
