I've brought you a lot of very special people and I hope to continue to bring you

very special people because you're special people so why not but this is, I don't, he might be one of a kind. I think he's the only person who fits the description I am about to give you.

He was born in Guam, raised in part of the time in

Selma, Alabama, I believe, part of the time in, I think he said Brooklyn, New York, he's a musician, he plays saxophone. He said there were some other instruments he plays as well. So he's a multi-instrumentalist

His his parents named him Jerry Allen Gardner, teaches at the University of Utah, where his students know him as Professor Gardner.

But our conversation today is primarily about Tibetan Buddhism and to the people that he attends to, through Tibetan Buddhism, he's known as Lama Thupin Dorhe

Gieldsen, orema Tupten for short and he is a Rinpoche which I believe is an honorific

meaning that he is the reincarnated spirit of a recognized Tibetan Buddhist teacher. Did I mention he's he's black as well. He's a black American dude who

fell in love with Tibetan Buddhism 50 years ago more or less and went in into the

deep end got real into it to the point where now he's a recognized

reincarnation of a Buddhist teacher.

Yeah, and he's a cool guy as you probably are

probably are imagining.

I went to hear him speak at a Tibetan temple just up the

hill from where we're living here in Creston, Colorado. He was in town visiting.

I think he's based in Utah most of the time.

And it was fantastic.
