Welcome to Family Ghosts.

Whenever people ask me where I got the idea for Family Ghosts,

I always say the same thing.

I had this theater professor in college.

And one day he told us that the key to understanding all of Western drama

is to remember that all great stories begin with the family.

He told us it doesn't matter if it's the Greeks or Shakespeare or Eugenoneal.

It's all just family stories.

All these years later, those words still echo in my ears.

I think about them all the time.

And eventually, after I graduated college,

and I got into shows like The Sopranos and Six-Feet Under,

I got to thinking that it's not just great Western playwrights.

Six-Feet Under and The Sopranos work,

even if we don't have any experience being mobsters or running funeral homes,

because they don't just do an amazing job of depicting those subcultures,

they are incredibly faithful representations of the messiness of life inside a family

with a deep sense of duty and legacy,
