Summary

In today's show Bob McTavish attributes his biggest design epiphanies to the evolution of the surfboard fin, and each of those to a personal relationship that sparked his inspiration. He shares how Dave Rastovich altered his perception on hydrodynamics, reveals the unfathomable generosity of Bill Bahne, the ingenuity of Tom Morey and Carl Pope, explains how the Sydney ferry and Greenough's tuna fishing's influenced fin design, reflects on surfing Noosa before the streets were paved, preaches the supremacy of asymmetry, reflects on the birth of the body board, and how Bunker Spreckles' El Rollos' altered his rail designs. Hey, big news. Well, not huge news, but news that I'm really excited about. We're going back to

0:06.9

Chakama, Peru, this August. Of course, this is always, thanks to impeccable organization from

0:13.7

waterwaystravel.com. The dates this year are August 22nd to the 29th. That's a seven-night stay.

We rented the entire resort at Chicama Boutique Hotel.

0:28.0

The trip will sell out, and you can book either a private room for yourself or a double

0:32.6

with two beds or a triple with three beds.

0:35.1

If you're traveling solo, we'll even pair you up with somebody else.

And again, the Chicama Boutique Hotel, it's the resort that's right overlooking the wave at Chicama,

0:46.2

kind of on the edge of town, right there at the point. It's regarded as the longest left in the

0:50.8

world, the wave itself. And then the resort from what we've heard is regarded

0:54.9

as the nicest in all of northern Peru. The restaurant at the hotel is amazing. The price of the

1:00.7

trip is all inclusive. This includes three meals a day, and it's actually three courses of each

1:07.0

meal, which I didn't realize last year when we went down there. And a couple days in,

1:11.0

people mentioned, oh yeah, order an appetizer, order a dessert, if you're up for the challenge.

1:15.7

But the food is incredible. And it also includes boats for us, which pick us up on the beach in

1:22.0

front of the hotel, and they shuttle us up the point and drop us off at the takeoff zone in the

1:26.6

lineup, which may seem wild or

1:29.1

inappropriate, but it's just the way that things operate there, and it makes our lives

1:33.8

super easy because, again, longest left in the world. They even pick you up after waves once you

1:38.5

kick out. So it's an incredible service, and the drivers do an incredible job. Anyway, I would love

1:43.8

to have you join me.

1:45.6

There's room for 20 people total, fewer than 20 people now because I know some people have
