Now if you've been a listener for a while, you should know by now that my absolute favorite scary movie is Scream. And I couldn't even tell you guys how many times I have watched that movie, probably too many. And it lead us into today's story.

Allegedly the iconic film was inspired by a series of murders that happened in Gainesville, Florida and is inspired by today's case, the Gainesville Ripper. Now this episode has been recommended that I do so many times and I feel like a lot of you guys are going to be really excited about this one. And if you haven't heard this case, it is gruesome.

Danny Rawling was born on May 26th, 1954 in Shreveport, Louisiana. I don't know if I said that right. I think I did. I listened to like 10 fucking videos on how to pronounce it since you guys always come for me when I miss pronounce city names.

But I'm sure someone will let me know he was born to father James and mother Claudia and as per usual his upbringing was less than ideal. His father was just like this piece of shit super abusive total asshole before Danny was even born the abuse started.

2:48.0

He was often physically and verbally abusive towards the mom Claudia, even during her pregnancy. She actually ended up leaving James shortly after Danny was born, but she returned shortly after wanting to quote unquote work on their marriage.

In addition to beating Claudia and Danny, James would also continuously abuse Danny's younger brother Kevin, who was born just a year after Danny.

3:11.0

Their father was a decorated Korean war veteran and police officer, real tough cookie, and I read in one article that he even once wrestled Danny into a pair of handcuffs and had him arrested because his dad was quote unquote, unbearous by him.

Now this type of household would cause anyone to be less than stable and in Danny's case it bred a killer. Now Claudia left taking her boys with her on several more occasions, however she always ended up going back to James.

3:38.0

During a 1992 testimony Claudia revealed that Danny had no self esteem when he was a kid. No self worth and he was often beaten twice a week.

3:46.0

The more you learn the Saturday gets, his mom wouldn't even hug him if the dad was around because she was in such a constant state of fear. Everyone was constantly walking on egg shells.

3:56.0

Lots of rules, no shoes inside, no sitting on the furniture, you have to keep quiet, hold your eating utensils correctly. If you fuck up in any way, you'll get whipped and if you cry, you'll get punched.

4:07.0

Like it was just awful and it seemed to be getting worse as Danny got older. Danny wasn't even allowed to sit at the family table during dinner.

4:14.0

Like he, I feel like was totally pinpointed by the dad and he was just kind of excommunicated to the kitchen during dinner, which we'll talk about in a second.

4:23.0

Around 11 years old Danny was a self proclaimed menace to society, however he found solace in two things, drinking and playing guitar. His criminalistic tendencies started developing around this time as well.

4:35.0
