Summary

Here's a question for you. What contains Fields of Arle, Spoils of War, Conflict of Heroes and Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs?

That's right! The answer is "A fistfight over an archaeological dig site in Northern Germany." But another valid answer would be the 58th ever SU&SD podcast, wherein Paul and Quinns discuss all of these games. What's more, Quinns reveals the results of his months-long experiment using the BG Stats app.

After all of that excitement the boys relax by dipping into the mailbag for a question on why board games seem to be getting more expensive, and close the podcast by talking about the noble art of marble racing. Enjoy, everybody!

Spoils of War, Fields of Arle, Conflict of Heroes, Conflict of Heroes: Guadalcanal, marbles

Hello everybody and welcome to the 58th ever episode of the Shut Up and Sit Down podcast.

My name is Quinten Smith and I will be your Venetian guide atop this canal of games.

0:20.9

I'm polling us down the passage.

Check out, don't fall overboard and who's my passenger on this trip? Why it's Paul Dean.

I'm singing to you from the prow of this small gondola about how wonderful board games are

0:39.4

and I'm so enthused that occasionally you have to tell me to duck because I'm looking

0:43.3

at you and I can't see where the ship's going and there's a bridge approaching and I could

0:47.0

bang my head. It's a metaphor for how much I'm into the hobby. Paul, yes.

We have announced something very special this week over on the site. We have announced the first

0:58.7

Shut Up and Sit Down Convention and we're going to get this out of the way before we talk about

1:03.3

all the great games we've got coming up this episode. Shucks is its name and it really I think

1:09.4

the reason we're doing the convention is we came up with the name Shucks for Shut Up Expo and it

1:14.2

was such a good name that we had to do a convention. I think we sort of come up with the various

1:22.1

acronyms first and then tried to sort of retrofit some event around them. I mean, yeah, I feel like

1:28.6

that was what happened. You come up with a cool acronym and then you try and squeak the words in

1:33.6

like into that series of letters. Anyway, this will be in Vancouver in October. Paul, what can the

1:41.0

people expect if they attend three solid days of Shucks sing? Are you going to expect us first of

1:48.2

all you me Matthew also Pip and Cynthia and also a bunch of other guests that we've invited include

1:55.0

interesting game designers like Jonathan Ying and Isaac Vega and Alan Gerding and Jay Kormier

2:00.0

and other people and this sort of constant rotating live panel live event thing going on. We're

2:07.3

going to have loads of open tables for games which I think is like the standard thing and

2:11.9

the board game convention anyway, but we also want to run live events like a couple of live podcasts
