The same thing goes for if you use something like the catcher in the rye as a comp title for

your young adult novel. That could be a red flag to agents or editors that tells them that you

might not have read a young adult book in a really, really long time. So the point here is that

comp titles only work if they're culturally relevant in the current marketplace, and if they

are truly comparable to your book. Some agents even say that they prefer titles that are less than

five years old, and I think that's a great filter to put all your possible comp titles through.
