Genesis chapter 50 verse 25

Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying,

God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.

That is a very interesting verse.

And it's one we can quickly gloss over,

or maybe even just kind of read and kind of wonder, huh, why is it so important

where Joseph's bones will be once he dies?

The very next verse after this, the last verse in the book of Genesis says Joseph died and

they embalmed him and he was put in a coffin in Egypt. But the picture here

in the verse prior to that verse verse 25, is a man who is about to die,

but he says to his family,

my ultimate place is not in Egypt. It's in the promised land. My ultimate hope is not in

what I've seen God do in and through my life here. It's in his promises to

come. Now obviously this is just merely his physical body, his physical bones, but it is a picture

when Joseph says this of faith, he knows that Egypt is not where the people of God are stopping.

That yes, they will be there a long time,

but God is going to bring them out just as he promised.

This is a promise that we have obviously seen going to bring them out just as he promised.

all throughout the book of Genesis.
