Summary

Change is the only constant, yet our first reaction to it is often fear. Whether it is a shift in the economy, a change in our health, or the rise of new technology like AI, the "unknown" triggers our defenses. In this episode, we explore the choice between Fear and Acceptance. We look at historical figures like Dorothy Vaughan (who embraced the first computers) and the Impressionist painters (who embraced the camera) to see how successful people don't fight the future—they evolve with it. Learn how to treat the changes in our world not as threats, but as a "gym" where we practice expanding our hearts, quieting our egos, and moving from anxiety to curiosity.

Change. Whether you're 15 or 85, the one thing you'll notice that has never happened before in history is the rapid acceleration of change that we're experiencing

right now because of AI. And for some people, it can feel quite overwhelming. When change happens,

0:30.6

our first response is often fear. It's one of the biggest puzzles we have to live with. We crave for certainty, but life offers change.

0:40.3

And though AI is clearly changing the way in which our world is rapidly accelerating right now,

0:48.3

change has been something that all of us have had to deal with our entire lives.

If we decide to get married, half of us won't stay married.

Few of us will have jobs that we get after we finish high school or college and keep it until we retire.

Most of us will have many jobs.

And as we age, all of us face the changing patterns and resilience

of our body. We get older, our bodies slow down. That's change. And though change has been

1:22.1

part of our lives, part of history, the truth is the rapid change that we're seeing right now has never occurred

1:29.7

in history before. So our craving for certainty has left many people with fear. But we have a choice.

1:39.4

We have two paths that we can go down when the new arrives. First, there's a resistance fear path where

1:48.0

we tighten up, judge it, and worry, and this creates suffering. The second path is acceptance

1:56.0

and curiosity, where we open up, observe it, and adapt.

2:01.9

This creates peace.

2:04.3

It's not that change itself hurts us.

2:07.2

It's our resistance to it.

2:09.5

Today, we're going to learn how to move from fear to curiosity.

2:15.4

Let's start with the metaphor of a new neighbor. Imagine a new neighbor moves in next door.
