Hello, this is Paul McKenna, and welcome to the positivity podcast.

My objective is to interview the most interesting people in the world,

and in the next 30 minutes, get insights and even discover how it is that they do what they do,

what makes them unique and fascinating, their success

mindset, and certainly what keeps them positive.

My guest today is a journalist from television broadcaster. He's made programs on cars, toys,

wine, travel and space exploration, amongst others. He's famous for being a co-presenter of Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

I'm talking today with James May.

I think I am quite optimistic overall.

I know a lot of people think I'm sort of eorish and not.

The modern world is better than it has been at any time before.

The illusion that the past was somehow better is a nonsense.

It must be. I really am

an idle bastard. I mean, I will lie on my bed and stare at the ceiling, given the opportunity.

I ignored my instincts and took advice when usually my instincts were right. And when young people

these days ask me for advice, I mean, thankfully, they don't that often and they shouldn't. But my

advice to young people is always that 95% of advice is rubbish.

Hard work alone doesn't guarantee success.

You also need inspiration.

But inspiration alone won't guarantee it either
