| 0:00.0 | Hey friends, Elisa Childers here. Welcome to part two of my discussion with Amy Hall. We're talking about a recent article that made the rounds by progressive author Sarah Bessie. It's her journey of becoming a firming of same sex marriage and relationships. |
| 0:24.0 | Listen to part one and then join us as we jump right into part two of our conversation. |
| 0:39.0 | So just to unpack the whole idea of what is a legitimate test for truth because in this case a subjective experience is not a good test for truth. |
| 0:51.0 | Because like you said, if our world view is informed by scripture, then no matter who we meet, we're going to love them. We're going to love them with the love of Jesus, no matter who they are, no matter what they're struggling with or what their background is. |
| 1:06.0 | We're going to love them, but we're also going to have a biblical foundation of truth in order to inform how we interact with them. |
| 1:17.0 | It's like if you go to a hospital and I'm not even thinking specifically about homosexuality, but just really anything that somebody might struggle with. But if we view it like we're going to a hospital like we have a sickness, you go there because you want to get the right cure. |
| 1:32.0 | But in order to get the cure, you have to first identify what's wrong. And so if you go to a hospital and the doctor says, oh you know nothing's wrong, let me just give you a bed and make you comfortable. |
| 1:44.0 | But if that's what he does, but there's really cancer eating away at our body, then that's not going to help anyone, which is why we have to start with truth. |
| 1:52.0 | It's important that we start the way we interact with anything on the foundation of truth. And so I'd really love your thoughts on this because this is when she's saying the penny dropped. |
| 2:04.0 | Essentially, the penny was up in the air with this story about Jesus, but then when she meets this woman who prays for her and makes her feel really good and she senses what she believes is the Holy Spirit in this woman, that's when the penny drops. |
| 2:20.0 | And so it's almost as if she's shifting the authority for what she believes is true from Jesus to another person in this instance. |
| 2:29.0 | Right. Yeah. And I think in terms of being driven by experience, I think one, I mean, this might be pretty politically incorrect. So I apologize to you for bringing this up, but just bring it on. |
| 2:43.0 | I think as women, one danger that we have, we are usually the peacemakers. We want to see, we see things through other people's eyes. We're very empathetic. |
| 2:53.0 | We want to, we want to please people. We want to make individuals happy. And that can be dangerous when you are trying to hold the line in some bit of truth. |
| 3:07.0 | So already as women, I think we, we have to be aware of that and we have to know that our tendency is going to be to tell everyone everything is fine. |
| 3:22.0 | So that's, that's something we have to fight against. So I'm not surprised seeing that she was moved by that. Nobody wants to tell people that what they're doing is wrong. |
| 3:32.0 | No, I don't get any joy out of that. I'm sure you don't know. Right. It's so much easier to do that. But I think you, you said this too. It's not loving to people to tell them something false. |
| 3:46.0 | If it's the case that unbiblical sexuality is actually harming you and it's in a front to God and it's against his purposes for you and the world, then it doesn't, it's not a good thing to tell you it's okay. |
| 4:04.0 | And she, you know, she kind of makes it sound like. |
| 4:10.0 | And I think you mentioned this earlier in a little bit, but she makes it sound like we're excluding people who have same sex attractions and saying that they can't be part of the covenant. |
| 4:23.0 | Right. And that is not true. Right. |
| 4:25.0 | Yeah, you everyone, we say everyone is welcome just as she says everyone is welcome. You know, at one point she says it makes no difference who you are or where you're from. |
