Hi there it's Matt here and welcome back to the podcast. I really wanted to hear all

0:10.4

about insomnia from a real clinician who is treating insomnia patients daily.

Dr Michael Grandner.

I was going to ask about the question, and it is mechanistically related, how we think about the difference

0:28.4

between insomnia across different sexes, so how are men and women different in terms of the

0:36.8

insomnia susceptibility?

0:39.0

Obviously both groups need to be highly aware

1:41.8

who hasn't been bounced around the system for 20 years because

1:45.2

for women what seems to be the case is they'll get every diagnosis except insomnia for decades

1:50.8

whether it's depression or stress or anxiety or fatigue, a lot of fatigue or pain,

1:57.2

and the clinicians are sort of focusing on those things and then the insomnia remains because at that point you have conditioned arousal anyway.

2:05.0

So one thing I should say is insomnia is likely more prevalent in women, especially as you get older because

2:11.0

there's more that can get in the way of sleep as you get older.
