Summary

Bestselling poet and author, Rupi Kaur, joins Krista for an intimate conversation on where she’s at in her life – mentally, emotionally, physically – as she nears her thirtieth birthday. In this raw, honest conversation, Rupi opens up about the deep grief she feels for herself, the mounting pressure that her success has brought into her life, and the realization that she needed time away from the noise. She also takes us behind the scenes on the process of writing her latest, Healing Through Writing, a book of prompts and writing exercises that began as a personal practice to stimulate creative ideas. On that subject, Rupi adds that each and every person is innately creative – and invites us to embrace and cherish that energy in whatever way we can. We also talk about: Feeling it all + carrying the weight Checking in before turning 30 Grieving the past  Leaving the chase behind Lessons from her parents  Being bad at boundaries  Nurturing friendships  Healing Through Writing Resources: Instagram: @rupikaur_ Get tickets to Rupi’s world tour: rupikaur.com Read: Healing Through Words by Rupi Kaur Read: Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur Read: The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur Watch: Rupi Kaur Live on Amazon Prime Video Join our community: almost30.com/membership facebook.com/Almost30podcast/groups Podcast disclaimer can be found by visiting: almost30.com/disclaimer.  Find more to love at almost30.com! Hello and welcome to the Almost 30 Podcast. It's Lindsay and Krista. What's happening?

0:14.3

What's happening? We're so glad to have you. We know there's a lot of options and we're

0:17.9

grateful you chose almost 30, especially those who have been with us for years, baby.

0:23.2

I've been getting so many OGDMs. Yes. Very sweet. I love our community because there's

0:27.9

so many that will message me and be like, hey, I've been listening for five years and I just

0:33.3

wanted to tell you this thing. Like, there's such a processed, like confident, strong,

0:40.6

independent, respectful group. Yeah, I love the questions that we get usually more often than not.

0:48.0

I'll voice note back because I save. It's so hard to kind of save. I can put it into words,

0:53.3

but it's just nice to rip. It's interesting. I was talking to a friend and this was an interesting

0:59.9

perspective that I've never thought about. But she was saying, she's like, I don't respond to

1:04.1

DMs because it could be a liability. Absolutely. So if you think about it in times, there's people

1:10.8

that really need help. I don't get that really much anymore, but she's like, I don't respond because

1:16.7

of the potential of a liability. Having you be the last person they talked to or having you be

1:22.0

someone that they're referencing or something like that is interesting. Sure. And so it's just

1:26.1

an interesting perspective because I think a lot of times for someone before I had an audience or

1:31.7

people that were listening or I engaged with, I would have been like, oh, why can't they answer

1:35.5

everybody? Why can't they help people? Because you assume it's just help, which it is. But then

1:41.6

there is the other side of it for someone that's a creator or influencer where you actually have to

1:47.2

be mindful about the repercussions of your actions and the fact of you don't know who's on the

1:52.7

receiving end or who's on the end of inquiry to you for help. Yeah, absolutely. Whether it's advice

1:59.3

or just needing support, yeah. I think about that with advice related to whether it's like

2:06.2

skin health or whatever. Of course. We're not experts. By the way, not a dermatologist.
