Summary

Jordana Abraham is one-third of the founding team behind OG online humor and content brand, Betches. K + L visit their New York headquarters for this one, as Jordana walks through how a parody blog they started in college has grown into a full-blown media empire. We talk about team dynamics and the delicate dance of dividing up business responsibilities amongst friends, and unpack the team’s shift into podcasting as a means to have deeper conversations about the world around them. Jordana is a breath of fresh air, a reminder that, considering the many stressors around us at any given time – we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously. We are here to laugh and to love abundantly. And sometimes that means memes. We also talk about: Balancing the Betches empire Team dynamics working in a trio The beginning of Betches What makes a good podcast? We're in New York, we're in New York, baby. We're in New York. So if you don't know, Krista and I live on opposite coasts and we make trips to record together, whether it's L.A. or New York or somewhere in the middle and we're in a New Yorker studio.

0:34.0

We're in a studio.

0:36.0

Not my favorite location.

0:38.0

Yeah, the studio is great. Not that this where we are in New York is not my favorite.

0:42.0

Yeah, we're in the butthole.

0:44.0

We're in the butthole of New York. This is where I actually I used to live one block over in one block west. Wow. So that was the vibe. It was actually really scary.

0:54.0

Like coming home at night, it was because that's when I was bartending. Yeah, that is.

0:58.0

Like not. And then I would spend money on a cab to get home because I didn't want to take us that way.

1:04.0

Sure.

1:04.0

Door to door. It's like it was I'm like, how am I supposed to save money and make money and every time you say if you leave, it's like $600.

1:16.0

I remember that we'd go on dates when I lived in Long Island City and we'd be like, let's cab home and it'd be like $70.

1:22.0

Crazy. And we're like, okay, we just spent $200 on dinner. 70 on a cab. How are we doing this?

1:28.0

Uh-huh. One day I went to Trader Joe's and Trader Joe's was in Chelsea and we were in Long Island City. And I kept waiting for the Q train or something and I waited for a train that didn't run on weekends for an hour.

1:38.0

I was at the fucking station and I had my Trader Joe's bags and I was like, yeah, I can't be doing this.

1:44.0

I spent like four hours on a Sunday going to fucking Trader Joe's. It's like, this is just not my vibe. I'm good on all that. Also the plastic game.

1:53.0

The amount of drinks and plastic is wild. Yeah. I think it's because it's in a condensed place. You really see it. I feel like plastics probably everywhere.

2:02.0

I know. Yeah. I also don't understand how cups are like, I made of plants and it's like literally plastic.

2:07.0

I've never seen those. I think I got a juice press and it was like, I'm 100% made of plants. Like, what?

2:12.0

Plastic like the plastic plant. Yeah. It was like, it's plastic and plastic. I'm like, how is it even possible?

2:19.0

But yeah, I was in my, I think I told you yesterday we were in this area. I was like sitting waiting for my lift and I was like texting on the side.

2:27.0

This girl's like, stop looking at your phone. I was like, shut the fuck up. Literally like took one second.
