Summary

546: Common question: What’s the best way to get my child interested in playing golf? Finally an answer that works, is fun, and has a school curriculum designed by education professionals. SNAG (Starting New at Golf) is the best “first-touch” program I’ve seen. It uses big clubs & balls, bright colors and language that all children would understand. But it’s not just for children, this system works for anyone who’s never held a golf club before. Our guest is John Johnson. The video includes the full interview and Golf Smarter host Fred Greene’s first swing with the Super SNAG Launcher (Driver) getting a Super SNAG Hole in One!   http://snaggolf.com and http://snagpros.com for schools, parks, and camp programs.  Watch the video https://youtu.be/PzFtzmBQ78E  http://GolfSmarter.comPart 2 of this episode for Premium Subscribers features Dallin Koecher of GoHeberValley.com. Heber Valley is the area in Utah where the ING Conference was held. Dallin is with their visitor’s bureau and we discussed how low profile golf destinations are using today’s social media to attract millennials to their area and to golf in general. Great to be here.

0:26.0

You know, frequently I'll get listeners writing to me asking, you know, I want to get my

0:31.6

kids started in golf.

0:33.4

What shall I do?

0:34.7

It's like, why are you asking me?

0:36.4

But what I like to say is start them on putting. Because if they can master that, and it's the easiest thing not only to conceptualize, it's like there you put a ball in front of the hole or you put there, and you could just put it in there, you know, if you get them to fall in love with putting and they become good at it, everything else gets easy. Sure.

0:55.1

And it's the easy thing.

1:10.6

It's because hitting golf ball just so hard, you don't want to do that to a little kid. You've got a better idea on how to get kids started with golf. Yes, we do. We do. We have a lot of fun with it. And the putting idea is a great thing, but you've got to go to where the putting holes exist, which typically are golf courses, okay?

1:12.7

And families live in neighborhoods,

1:11.0

and neighborhoods have parks, right? And so Snag is designed

1:16.7

to be entirely above ground. So with our equipment, okay, the ball is a Velcro-based ball.

1:25.7

When it hits, it sticks. Same reward that you had before. And a child can do this.

1:32.7

And so we do have a putter that we actually call a roller to start with because putting is a foreign word to a child.

1:39.8

It's like asking a child to work on a swing plane. Chances are their arms are going out and they're going to start zooming around.
