Summary

"Listen, there are eight heats. Seven of them were all men. We are one-eighth of the media. We need to get that number up. But hell yeah to being the one-eighth."

Jay Holder and I are back today, talking all things World Athletics Championships! We spent more than two weeks in Eugene, OR, working on the media experience team — him as the mixed zone supervisor, me as the press conference moderator — and in the third installment of our World Champs recaps, we're picking up where we left off last time. We talk about running the Media 800 at Hayward Field, share our favorite (and least favorite) moments from the 10-day competition period, and share the most challenging and unforgettable experiences along the way. (Check out our first recap here, and listen to our World Championships Q&A episode here.)

Welcome to The Alley on the Run Show. I'm your host Alley Feller and this is my World Athletics

0:26.4

Championships recap, part 2. I'm recording this intro on Monday morning, July 25th.

0:32.9

Can you hear my voice? Yeah, how good does that sound? I've been in Eugene, Oregon for 16 days now

0:39.0

and I fly home tonight on the red eye back to Boston. When I tell you I cannot wait to see my family

0:45.8

and kiss them and hug them. I can't wait. It's been a long trip. But first, it is time to pick

0:52.2

up where Jay Holder and I left off last week. You may recall Jay is the vice president of

0:57.3

Marketing and Communications at Atlanta Track Club and we are both working here in Eugene as part

1:02.6

of the media operations team. He supervises the entire mix zone team and I'm the press conference

1:09.5

moderator. Also working in the mix zone, basically just helping journalists get the interviews they

1:14.7

want and the athletes they want and doing a whole lot of other jobs. I had no idea how to do

1:20.9

or why to do before this trip. It has been a journey, it has been an experience, it has been

1:27.2

totally unforgettable and really challenging and a million other things I think I'll be processing

1:32.3

for a while. So we'll talk about all of that today. But first, we would not be here having this

1:38.0

fun conversation without the support of Tracksmith. Tracksmith is a Boston-based apparel brand that

1:43.8

makes some of my favorite running pieces. It's a brand for runners, founded and created by runners,

1:50.5

inspired by a deep love of this sport. And Tracksmith is all over this town and I'm part of that.

1:57.8

I have spent a lot of time running around Eugene in my favorite Tracksmith products, mainly the

2:03.1

Austin shorts and the Austin bra. Jay and I talk about the media 800 meter race in this episode,

2:09.0

so fun and I wore my Austin shorts for two laps around Hayward Field. Yeah, highly recommend
