It's been a while since we've recorded when the assassination attempt occurred on the weekend.

I don't think I have to specify which assassination attempt.

I think we all remember it.

I think we can assume a certain general knowledge on the part of the audience in this case.

I was driving from Philadelphia

to the Mahoning Valley, about a two-hour drive, and my traveling companion was looking at his phone

and said, there was an assassination attempt on Trump. And I thought to myself, boy, I'm really glad

I'm not going to be looking at my phone for the next two hours. I was just looking at the beautiful Appalachia's, just looking at the sunset.

And I don't know, I was pretty unplugged from a lot of it.

Yeah, I've been buried deep in archives.

And actually, I was working out of a storage locker on Monday and Tuesday where there wasn't even any cell phone service.

So that was perfect.

It's funny.

What I gleaned of the discourse about Donald Trump was there was that spectator op-ed that I'm sure you saw that was called We Are All Mega Now.

And there's a sort of script that usually happens when something like this happens, where a kind

of national unity is enforced. And I obviously saw that, you know, from certain higher echelons of the

discourse. But in the lower echelons of the discourse, where people like you and I, you know, inhabit, I mostly saw

conspiratorial stuff from across the spectrum. I saw people wishing death upon the former

president. I saw a lot of jokes. I saw a lot of fear that this could help him in November.
