Hello there and welcome to The Bowery Boys, my name is Greg Young.

And I'm Tom Myers.

And we're glad that you're with us on this summer podcast day and like everyone else in New York City,

we're all going up to Central Park.

We're going to take off to the park today and explore the history behind what is arguably one of New York's most famous attractions.

Well, it's one of the biggest tourist attractions.

The city couldn't survive without Central Park.

Not only is it of course the heart of the city, as they also call it, it's the lungs of New York City as well.

And it was designed really to give residents a place to breathe, you know, but also designed to give people a place to escape to.

As we'll see, maybe the major conflict of Central Park is, who is it really for?

The philosophy is behind it, kind of shift as the city itself shifts.

Now, there's so much about Central Park, we could actually do four or five continuous podcasts on the history of Central Park.

You know, there's so many things inside of it that people know about and love.

You know, we've already done Central Park Zoo as one separate podcast and there's a few other things in there that could get their own show.

We're going to talk generally about the history of it, the creation, the philosophies behind it, the construction, and then the evolutions of it as the city itself changed.

So join us as we dig a little into the history of Central Park.
