Mary Stauffer was planning for her family to leave the United States to travel to the Philippines

on a Baptist mission in five days. So she loaded her eight-year-old daughter Beth into the car and

went to the hair salon so the girl could get a haircut before they set off on their journey.

She had no reason to believe anybody would be watching her as she carried out her errands,

but someone was.

He had been watching her for years, and once he learned she was leaving the country, he

was desperate to not be without her.

Music Ming Sen Shu was born on October 15th, 1950 in Taiwan to Chern-John and May Shoe.

Chern-John, who went by Jim, was a forestry researcher who had designed the system still used today to monitor forest resources. He had written a number of research articles and taught

the subject, which was why the University

of Minnesota reached out to him in 1957 to become the head of the forestry department.

May was also a teacher and was hired by the university as a mathematician.

Shortly after moving to the States, Jim and May had two more sons, Charles and Ron.

Their newly acquired American Dream was shattered two years after arriving in the States

when Jim was diagnosed with cancer. He died a few years later when Ming was 11 years old.
