Today on Let There Be Talk #525 it's the return of the Metal Master himself Brian Slagel, CEO of Metal Blade Records.
Brian has been on the show 3 times now and every time he delivers some incredible Heavy Metal History and this time is no exception.
I thought it would be cool to have Brian back on to talk about those early days of Metallica and the Thrash Metal scene. This was recorded late January 2020 during my celebration of Thrash Metal but I wanted to hold it until the DVD release of Murder in The Front Row.
Brian and I also talk about his recent move to Las Vegas, The future Metal Blade Museum, The Raiders new stadium, Slayers Last tour ever and Stand Up Comedy.
Keep the Candles Lit everyone. Stay inside wear a mask and wash them hands.

1:41.0 | I told this story. I think I told it on the Garrow episode. My old Harley boss. I did tell it. If you never heard that, go back and listen to it. I sat down with my boss at Harley Davidson before I did comedy. I was selling motorcycles. |
1:57.0 | And while I started comedy, I was still doing it. But there was an Easter that the owner bought everybody a white chocolate bunny and there were one pound, a one pound white chocolate bunny. |
2:13.0 | And no one ate them. And each day, this is, you wonder where my diabetes came from. Each day around, I don't know, two in the afternoon, I would just bust one open, a one pound white chocolate bunny. |
2:27.0 | And I would fucking eat it. There was like ten of them, like ten days straight, like ten pounds of white chocolate. What a fucking lunatic. |
2:39.0 | I wonder how I got diabetes. I love white chocolate. So it's, I think it's the white trash of candy. I didn't know this, but when I was young, I would just, you know, eat white chocolate. 3:30.0 | And I was there and that was when I was doing Thrash January. Well, I thought it'd be cool to sit down and talk to Brian Slagel, who I've had on. I think this guy, you know, he's a three timer, which is very rare. Usually I don't have anybody more than once. |
3:49.0 | But I love this man and his stories. And I thought it'd be perfect to have him on and talk about those old days of Thrash Metal and him putting out the first compilation with the first recorded Metallica song. |
4:02.0 | And I didn't put it out right away because I decided to save it. I felt like we did four Thrash January's in a row, four Mondays in a row. And I didn't want people to be like, all right, enough with a Thrash Metal. |
4:16.0 | If they weren't into Thrash Metal, and I didn't want people to just skip over episodes. And then once I interviewed Adam Dubin, the director of Murder in the Front Row, which came out last week, I realized this is a perfect timing to put Brian's out because it's a great two weeks in a row of promoting Murder in the Front Row coming out on DVD April 24th. |
4:40.0 | And I want to give that film as much glory as I can because it's absolutely fantastic. It's a huge part of music history. And even if you don't like Thrash Metal, you will love this film. You will be like, what the hell? How did this happen? |
4:58.0 | And Slagel is an absolute metal genius. He loves metal. He's loved it since he was a kid like myself. He opened on label, metal blade records. He's still here with over 1500 releases. |
5:17.0 | And going stronger than ever, he had great stories. And not only did we talk Thrash Metal, I can talk all kinds of stuff with this guy real estate. He moved out to Vegas recently. |
