Summary

Today I'm joined by the Captain from True Crime Garage. The Captain's personality is very mellow and easy going which makes his story so surprising. He talks about one of the worst years of his life where he sought treatment for depression. What happens next is a downward spiral of failures, setbacks and terrible decisions. Nobody is immune to depression and mental illness and sometimes the people who are supposed to help us might make things worse. That said, if you are experiencing depression or issues, please seek help. This episode is not attempting to dissuade anyone from treatment. Everyone's story is different. Prescriptions, when prescribed correctly, should have a predictable intended effect. Yet any drug can have adverse effects on any individual. It's not an easy balance to achieve but we should never stop trying.  www.truecrimegarage.com @truecrimegarage

their life together, so we ask ourselves, why can't we get ours on track?

Tonight, I have a very special guest.

Mental illness does not discriminate whether you're famous or not.

I'm so excited.

So essentially, when we talked last time, you told me this whole crazy story about you

1:07.9

playing at bars, working a full-time job, it's stressing you out, and then getting

1:12.8

on prescriptions that made everything worse. So that's the story that I want you to tell.

1:18.7

So I actually worked three jobs for a while. I worked at a bank on Monday through Friday. I

1:25.1

believe I'd normally start at nine, get done at three. Then I'd drive

1:30.8

from downtown to the south side of town. And I'd teach from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. And I'd do that Monday,

1:39.9

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning, like 10 to 2.

1:45.0

And then I'd play gigs normally Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and sometimes Sunday.

1:52.0

So I was working a lot.

1:54.0

So what were you teaching?

1:56.0

I was teaching guitar.
