I've been talking about this eternity amnesia.

And the fact that you just can't understand life without forever.

And yet we live in a culture where there's been the larceny of forever.

It's been stolen.

And it's no longer an essential part of the way that people think about life.

In fact, if you talk about the afterlife, how do people tend to treat you?

They want to pat you on the shoulder and say,

it must be nice to be from another century.

They think you're a little bit weird

and a little bit hyper-religious.

And that affects us because whether you realize or not,

we all tend to breathe in the pollutants of the culture around us.

And when you do that, you don't know what I was in New Delhi many years ago, northern India,

and I had been there for my first full day.
