and the Battle of Rysaka had come to an end as the Confederates abandoned their lines, crossed

the Ustanalla River, and withdrew off to the south.

The armies found a different landscape south of the Ustanala.

The steep bridges, narrow gaps, and heavy woods that characterized the region north of the

river now gave way to more open terrain
