Summary

In this episode, I want to encourage you to think about one thing - are you actually living your life, or are you living next to it? We explore what it means to stop being adjacent to yourself, why the things we use to numb the gap like alcohol, screens, and other people's opinions are actually keeping us from the most important relationship we will ever have, and why the journey to find yourself and the journey to find God are the same road. 00:00 - Introduction to Divine Purpose 01:00 - Numbing and Distraction in Culture 02:25 - The Journey to Self and God 04:27 - Integrity and Attention 05:30 - Evolution of Teaching and Authentic Voice Resources: —Need a digital detox? Hello and welcome to another episode of the Mark Groves podcast. You know, I've been thinking a lot

0:04.9

about purpose and what does it mean to be in divine relationship with your purpose? You know,

0:11.9

I talked about devotion versus commitment and what it means to be in your Dharma. And I'm having

0:17.2

this just crazy realization as I have these conversations with you,

0:22.9

that I've been quite Dharma adjacent myself.

0:25.3

That's probably why the words resonated so much with me that you can live your life next to yourself.

0:33.7

Like, think about that.

0:35.2

You can live your life next to yourself.

0:39.2

Never fully being yourself.

0:41.9

Never fully claiming who you actually are.

0:45.0

Never fully claiming your morality, your values.

0:49.8

There's obviously so many confounding factors to this because when you live in a culture,

0:55.6

we're cultures, where there's a lack of integrity and they're just weaved into the culture,

1:01.1

like alcohol, use of pornography, drugs, etc. All these ways in which we numb ourselves,

1:08.3

we distract ourselves from feeling the pain of being adjacent to who we

1:13.5

are and what we want to do with our lives. And I had this moment of awareness this week that

1:20.0

even my relationship work, which came from a really sincere place, a very true place. You know, there's that idea that, you know, if you want to

1:31.4

find what you love, find what breaks your heart. And that broke my heart, how people experienced

1:35.5

heartbreak and how culture and society judged people for their relationships ending, and that we

1:42.7

judge ourselves so much for our relationships not doing well,

1:45.9

that we bear so much self-worth stuff because of that instead of stepping into worth,

1:51.7

which would, you know, disrupt our relationships, of course. Because if you relate to people
