Academy award-winning film director, producer, and actor Ron Howard joins Chris for a fascinating conversation in #51 of this, there How To Wow.
Ron, along with his little brother Clint have written The Boys: A memoir of Hollywood and Family, a new book documenting their upbringing and the Hollywood stories from that have shaped their lives.
Ron has said: “This was an opportunity to look back with sort of our perspective and understand how we actually survived this journey and how much this kind of combination of really brilliant parenting and some good luck and some great professional associations really enabled and empowered us to achieve this.”
It's a beautiful book, and it's out now.

1:51.0 | Right. I'm really cut to the chase straight away. I devoured your book. I love you anyway, and I love your movies and I love happy days. I wasn't so much aware of the end of the Griffith Church, which we're going to in a moment or two, but the book is awesome. |
2:03.0 | Thank you. It is awesome. I will cut to the chase. Okay. I've never interviewed. I don't think I've ever met anybody who's under monkey. |
2:11.0 | Well, by the way, you wouldn't own a monkey today. No, I've already put several times on your behalf before you came on. Yes, yes, you have owned a monkey. But was it like a woolly monkey? |
2:22.0 | Sugar was great. And my wife Cheryl and her dad were kind of you, etc. Accentric pet owners. |
2:30.0 | And in those days, anteaters, armadillos, and they actually had a also had a woolly monkey. And we found this one who was sickly because why? Because she'd been grabbed by a poacher and not very and not taken care of very well. |
2:47.0 | And my then girlfriend, now wife Cheryl fell in love with this little monkey, knew how to nurse her and we did. And so we got the monkey and went. She was our, she was a pet for, you know, instead of getting a dog, you know, how the couple gets the dog before they get married and has the kids. |
3:03.0 | Well, for us, it was a little woolly monkey, but she used to terrify to some extent people on the set of happy days because occasionally I would bring the monkey. |
3:14.0 | And sugar was, you know, she was fine, but she could be a little noisy and she would leap from one shoulder to the other. |
3:20.0 | Because as that phrase, you know, sometimes when one of your work colleagues not having a great day, say, that sounds like I've got a monkey on the back today. |
3:26.0 | But you really did have a more creative idea. |
3:29.0 | Now, it was interesting. The book, by the way, the book is a masterclass. It's a very gentle, but very profound. It was, it's performed to very gently. |
3:38.0 | And masterclass on Hollywood as a workplace. And that's not normalizing it because I know you love what you do. And you've always been fascinated by, by the whole, by the whole of show business, not just the movies, but it is about this kid who at the age of four got this job on this TV show. |
