Numbers chapter 5 verses 1 through 4

get this picture the Lord spoke to Moses saying

command the people of Israel that they put out of the camp

everyone who is lepros

or has a discharge and everyone who is unclean through contact with the dead.

You shall put out both male and female, putting them outside the camp, that they may not

defile their camp, in the midst of which I dwell and the people

of Israel did so and put them outside the camp as the Lord said to Moses so the people of Israel did.

I want you just to imagine having leprosy and

this command comes that you are to be put outside the camp,

away from your family, away from your community.

And on a physical level this obviously made sense in that day.

The reality is in the lack of modern medicine that we have there was so much opportunity for

any number of things to spread in the camp of God's people and so there's a picture here of protection and

provision but it's also just hard to imagine being a leopard and so you fast forward even to the day of Jesus and so you see lepers and

the practice was if you were lepros and anybody got near you, you were to yell out.

Unclean, unclean, like don't come close to me.

You don't want to be defiled by me. You don't want to

get near what I have. And so when you turn the pages in the new testament you find in

Luke 5, Jesus coming to a man with

leprosy.
